Together Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its online premiere on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like conventional physical horror, but inside Together lies a deep contemplation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim relocate from the big city to the country for Millie’s job. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the two tumble into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and delivers them in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He fears the concept of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

The couple confront the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions over a long period. At their core, they continue to care for one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism never feels clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu now.
